Locanda Alley - Xi'an

Our Story

An Italian Connection

Locanda 1880 was originally located in Caserta, south Italy, where two young overseas Chinese students, Alan and Tony, became life-long friends with the owner /chef Giovannone Negro, and fell in love with Italian food and culture. Locanda follows traditional Italian “family restaurant” principle, i.e. cooking and serving with care and love. Giovannone Negro is as enthusiastic about cooking great traditional Italian pizza as in travel. He is deep into Chinese culture, admires the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, and Chinese food.

His passion love of food and the passion for cooking had a profound influence on the young people around him. When these young oversea students came back in China in 2013, the first Locanda in Shanghai was established inheriting the traditional “family restaurant” principle with the support of Locanda, Caserta.

In December 2016, Locanda found its new home in beautiful historical city of Xi’an, where the City Wall, Beilin Museum are at the door step and Terra-Cotta Warriors, Hua Mountain, Qinling mountains, Huaqing Hot Spring in travel distance. In 2018, another lifelong friend, Jason (trained by Michelin starred chef) came on board as the new chef. Locanda Xi’an will continue its mission of “cooking with passion, serving with heart, sharing with love” and host “food and life lovers” from all over the world.
